DANGER AVOIDANCE PRACTICES
January 9 – January 29
In her solo exhibition “Danger Avoidance Practices” at Zuzeum Greenhouse, Lino Kamelin presents her latest body of work.
Holding a BA in Political Science and leaving behind a master study course on religion and culture, the artist revisits former topics of research with a process-oriented approach. While theory may serve as a point of departure, her exploration on the themes of danger, safety and sacrifice follows through her own conceptual lens. As indicated in the exhibition title, emphasis is placed on cultural practices that foster resilience and a sense of certainty in times of turmoil. Artworks created within this framework unfold like a visual essay, merging elements of scientific research and mythical narration with lived experiences.
From September onward, Lino Kamelin has been in residence at Zuzeum, continuing her artistic research and practise within the premises of Zuzeum’s Greenhouse. This residency – SPOT Exchange – is an initiative part of the POST Master’s programme at the Art Academy of Latvia to strengthen collaboration between Austria and Latvia’s academic and non-academic art institutions. The residency programme is dedicated to supporting the professional development of emerging artists and curators from both countries.
This residency has been a partnership between Zuzeum Art Museum (Latvia) and DAS WEISSE HAUS (Austria), alongside the Art Academy of Latvia and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
