🏳️‍🌈 Welcome to a bright and vibrant pop–up exhibition featuring a selection of artworks from the Zuzāns Collection. “Embrace” is an exhibition devoted to Pride Month, exploring various perspectives on multifaceted aspects of human existence, interaction, self-identity, respect, and acceptance.

Discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community remains a persistent and deeply rooted issue that continues to affect the lives of millions of individuals in both Latvia and worldwide. Despite significant progress in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights,  many individuals within this community still face various forms of discrimination, prejudice, and marginalization. Latvia, both within the European Union and among the Baltic states, remains one of the last countries addressing issues of LGBTQ+ equality, considering inclusive legislation and fighting domestic violence.

Offering a kaleidoscope of diverse experiences, “Embrace” seeks to illuminate the complex nature of human existence and its nuances. From intimate portrayals of personal relationships to thought-provoking representations of revelation and self-expression.

These artworks invite the viewer to reflect on their own life experiences, societal norms, and expand their understanding of what it means to be human. They evoke a range of emotions, from joy and love to struggle and resilience, fostering empathy and connection among visitors.

The exhibition will showcase more than 15 artworks spanning various media and styles, with the majority created after the year 2000 by artists with diverse backgrounds and experiences. The featured artists hail from Latvia, Estonia, the United States, and Russia, including Anita Arbidāne, Andris Grinbergs, Ana Benaroya (USA), Ginters Krumholcs, Egor Koshelev (Russia), Kārlis Vītols, Līga Spunde, Merike Estna (Estonia), Miķelis Mūrnieks, the creative duo Skuja Braden (Latvia, USA), and others.

With this project, the Zuzeum Art Centre reaffirms itself as a space that welcomes and celebrates all cultures, communities, and social groups, where visitors are not sorted or judged based on their appearance, religious affiliation, nationality, political beliefs, or sexual orientation.
