In the Great Exhibition Hall of Zuzeum the exhibition ‘Where to Hide!’ is on display until May 19th. The exhibition presents more than 350 works created by Latvian artists under Soviet occupation from the Zuzāns Collection, Latvian National Museum of Art and private collections as well as materials from the Latvian State Archive of Audiovisual Documents.
During the tour, Sandra Krastiņa will introduce the concept of the exhibition and delve into both the art created during the Soviet occupation years and the overall context of that time, highlighting the significance of Soviet-era art and its role today. Sandra Krastiņa is not only the curator of the exhibition ‘Where to Hide!’ but also an artist who herself created artworks during the Soviet occupation and experienced firsthand how, alongside themes co-opted by the authorities, artists endeavored to express themselves freely. This allowed the exhibition to be shaped as an authentic testimony of the era, where the author speaks clearly and unmistakably through the artwork.
