Zuzeum Art Museum invites you to a relaxed morning dedicated to art, the Latvian landscape, and the development of Arijs Skride’s distinctive painterly language.

During the Senior Morning, we will explore the exhibition “ARIJS SKRIDE 120. The Spirit of the Purvītis School – Inherited, Cultivated, Individualised” together with exhibition creator Linda Vizuma. The exhibition is dedicated to Arijs Skride, one of the most significant Latvian landscape painters of the 20th century.

Marking the 120th anniversary of the artist’s birth, the exhibition focuses on Skride’s early creative period – the years when he studied at the Art Academy of Latvia in the Landscape Painting Studio led by Professor Vilhelms Purvītis and gradually developed his own individual painterly language.

The exhibition presents works from the 1920s–1940s, in which the qualities characteristic of Skride’s art already begin to emerge: a refined tonal palette, a strong sense of composition, rich painterly texture, and an ability to capture the subtle relationships between light, space, and atmosphere in the Latvian landscape.

During the conversation, we will look at how the tradition of the Purvītis School meets a personal vision of nature, urban surroundings, ports, market squares, landscapes of Latgale, and rural Latvia in Skride’s works. Linda Vizuma will also share the story of how the initial idea developed into both an exhibition and a book.

The morning will conclude with tea and conversation in the Zuzeum Living Room, where we invite you to share impressions and reflections in a calm, informal atmosphere.

Seniors are especially welcome, though all interested visitors are warmly invited, regardless of age. We look forward to welcoming you to Zuzeum!
