Zuzeum Art Centre invites you to a conversation with Solvita Krese, Director of the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (LCCA), curator Andra Silapētere and artist duo Skuja Braden (Ingūna Skuja and Melissa D. Braden).
In a conversation moderated by philosopher Igors Gubenko, we will invite the artists and curators to reflect on their experiences at the Venice Biennale and outline their plans for the future.
The porcelain artists have been working together for more than 20 years. In 2022, together with LCCA curators Solvita Krese and Andra Silapētere, they created the Latvian Pavilion at the 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. More than 300 works by the artists formed the multimedia project Selling Water by the River, which was widely acclaimed by international critics and visitors alike.
This art piece is the artist duo’s shared private space reimagined in the porcelain medium and transferred to Venice. Through the intimate and personal messages of their work, the artists explore the fluid boundaries between private and public space within a postsocialist context marked by persistent exclusion of queerness, as well as testify to the revival of porcelain in contemporary art.
The conversation will be in Latvian with translation into English. Free admission with registration.
