🎤 As part of the public program for the exhibition Unframed: Leis, Tabaka, Rožanskaitė, Zuzeum invites you to a thought-provoking lecture by renowned art critic and curator Jurriaan Benschop.
📅 Saturday, 1 March 2025, 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm
🎟️ Free admission with prior registration
🗣️ The lecture will be held in English
Drawing from his latest book, Why Paintings Work (2023), Benschop will explore how paintings communicate beyond their visual surface, engaging viewers through composition, material, and meaning.
In dialogue with the works of Malle Leis, Maija Tabaka, and Marija Teresė Rožanskaitė, the lecture will examine how these Baltic women artists expanded the boundaries of painting during the late Soviet era. What makes a painting compelling? How do we experience it beyond the frame? And what language can we use to talk about art today? Benschop will offer fresh perspectives on how to read and connect with paintings in a contemporary context.
Join us for an afternoon of art, conversation, and new ways of seeing.
