The first Open House Riga festival invites visitors to discover Riga’s architecture from a new perspective – not only by looking at buildings from the outside, but also by stepping inside spaces that are normally closed to the public. Alongside some of Riga’s best-known architectural landmarks, the programme includes private homes and offices, industrial heritage sites, educational and cultural buildings, historic houses and examples of contemporary architecture.
For the past six years, Zuzeum Art Museum has occupied a former cork factory designed in 1910 by architect and engineer Edmund von Trompowsky. Today, Zuzeum is a museum and one of Latvia’s leading art centres. The transformation of the building involved restoring the historic factory and creating a public outdoor space, establishing an open cultural environment for art, education, events and everyday use.
During Open House Riga, visitors will have the opportunity to explore parts of Zuzeum that are normally closed to the public, including offices, the artist residency and technical areas, offering a glimpse behind the scenes and revealing what it takes for the museum to operate.

The Open House Riga programme brings together both historic and contemporary architecture, offering an insight into how Riga’s urban environment has evolved over time. Festival locations include the Viskaļi creative centre, Riga School of Design and Art housed in a historic wooden building, the award-winning Viesturdārza kvartāls residential complex, and many others.
All Open House Riga tours are free of charge, but places are limited. Visitors are therefore encouraged to register in advance on the festival website, where the latest information about the programme and satellite events is also available.
Open House is one of the world’s largest initiatives dedicated to architecture and the urban environment. It began in London in 1992, and today the Open House Worldwide network spans more than 60 cities across six continents. Riga joined the network in summer 2026. The first Open House Riga aims to encourage wider public interest in architecture and the built environment.
