On 12 November, as part of the exhibition Looking Away. Women Artists in the Zuzāns Collection: 2000–2026, four artists with diverse professional backgrounds and artistic perspectives will discuss the changes in Latvian art between 2000 and 2026. We will explore this period through their personal experiences, artworks, and relationships with art.

The discussion will focus on what engages and inspires the artists, how their perspectives on art have developed, and what has changed over time. We will talk about encounters with art that have stayed with them, beliefs that have endured or been reconsidered, and how they look at their earlier work today. These stories will offer a deeper understanding of their thinking and the different ways in which personal experience finds its way into art.

We will also explore how opportunities to work and exhibit have changed over this period, how society’s attitudes towards the topics addressed by the artists have evolved, and the expectations they encounter.

The discussion will feature artists Rasa Jansone, Kristīne Krauze-Slucka, Dzelde Mierkalne and Līga Spunde, alongside Katrīna Jaunupe, Director of the “Arts Needs Space” Foundation.
