Zuzeum Art Museum invites you to a leisurely morning of conversations about contemporary art, held as part of the exhibition Looking Away. Women Artists in the Zuzāns Collection: 2000–2026.

The exhibition focuses on contemporary female artists and their works created during the first two decades of the 21st century, forming a unique collective biography of this period. It brings together works by more than 40 female artists living in Latvia, the Baltic states and elsewhere in the world, all represented in the Zuzāns Collection.
We’ll begin the morning with a guided tour led by an art mediator. Photographer Inta Ruka will then speak about her photographs featured in the exhibition, sharing more about how they came about and the human stories behind them. To round off the morning, we invite you to join us for tea and conversation in the Zuzeum Living Room, where we’ll share our impressions and reflections on the exhibition in a peaceful and informal atmosphere.
Inta Ruka (b. 1958) is a Latvian photographer. She trained at the VEF Photo Studio and the “Ogre” Photo Studio. She organises her work into collections and works consistently in black-and-white photography and the portrait genre, focusing on the inhabitants of particular places and their life stories. Her extensive collection My Country People (1983–1998), which documented the lives of residents of isolated farmsteads in the Balvi district over a period of almost 20 years, was exhibited at the Latvian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 1999. The collections People I Know (1999–2004) and Amālija Street 5a (2004–2008) are dedicated to the residents of Riga. In 2011, Inta Ruka was nominated for the Purvītis Prize for her exhibition Amālijas Street 5a.
Senior citizens are especially welcome, but everyone interested in art and photography is warmly invited to join us, regardless of age. We look forward to seeing you!
