Zuzeum Art Museum invites you to a guided tour of the exhibition Looking Away. Women Artists in the Zuzāns Collection: 2000–2026, with the exhibition’s co-curator Jevgēnija Hamudajeva.

📅 3 October at 12:00
🎟️ Participation fee: exhibition admission
🗣️ The tour will be held in Latvian

During the tour, co-curator Jevgēnija Hamudajeva will introduce the exhibition’s concept, its development process and the works of more than 40 women artists from Latvia, the Baltic region and elsewhere, represented in the Zuzāns Collection.

The exhibition brings together works created during the first two decades of the 21st century, forming a kind of collective biography of the period. Its conceptual point of departure is British visual culture theorist Irit Rogoff’s idea of “looking away” as another way of engaging with culture. Here, the notion is turned towards the artworks themselves, inviting visitors to pay attention not only to what is visible, but also to the conditions in which the works were created.

An important part of the exhibition is the curatorial conversations with the artists. These continue within the exhibition through contextual layers selected by the artists themselves – notes, materials, objects and other traces that offer a closer view of the processes and environments behind the works.
