Across three concerts in the Summer Night Chamber Music series, from 27 to 29 August, audiences are invited to rediscover – or encounter for the first time with masterpieces of European and Latvian chamber music, and to meet the orchestra’s virtuoso musicians and their friends in an easy-going atmosphere. It will also be a chance to catch the international art exhibition MAMA: Mother Nature, on view at Zuzeum Art Museum until the end of August.
27 August, 20:00 “Ludwig van Beethoven, Sinfonietta Rīga and Vineta Sareika”
Well before the opening of its 21st season, this year unfolding under the sign of Ludwig van Beethoven, Sinfonietta Rīga invites audiences to an evening of chamber music by the great German composer. Among the orchestra musicians, listeners will also encounter the world-renowned Latvian violinist Vineta Sareika and the outstanding pianist Reinis Zariņš.
28 August, 20:00 “3 + 4. String Trio and Piano Quartet”
The classic combinations of chamber ensembles and instrumental line-ups offer a wonderfully rich spectrum – much like a colourful bouquet of flowers, where everyone is a soloist! This evening, the floral voices will bloom in the tonal worlds of Liepāja-born Agris Engelmanis, Polish modernist Krzysztof Penderecki, and the great master of German late Romanticism, Johannes Brahms.
29 August, 20:00 “Soundscapes of Pēteris Vasks”
Mist, restless summer nights, and birdsong. Who could better express the fragile beauty of northern nature than the most widely acclaimed Latvian composer in the world, Pēteris Vasks? Continuing to celebrate the master’s 80th anniversary, Sinfonietta Rīga dedicates the closing concert of Summer Evening Chamber Music to Pēteris Vasks and his ethereal art of sound.
