Senior mornings are back!

Zuzeum Art Centre invites you to relaxed morning conversations about contemporary art. This time, we will explore Austrian sculptor Erwin Wurm’s exhibition How It Is. In the exhibition, the artist invites us to look at everyday objects from an unusual perspective – with deformed cars, exaggerated shapes, and absurd ideas. Why like this? Why might it confuse or even upset us? Why does the artist work with these materials?

Together, we’ll look for answers to these and other questions, joined by Latvian sculptors, who will participate in each senior morning. It’s a unique opportunity not only to explore art more deeply but also to meet artists who work with diverse materials and ideas in their everyday practice. A different sculptor will join us each time.

📅 Wednesday, 30 July, 11:15–13:00
🎟️ Entrance with exhibition ticket
🗣️ This event will take place in Latvian

We’ll begin the morning with a guided tour led by an art mediator. The second senior morning will feature sculptor Oto Holgers Ozoliņš. At the end, we’ll gather for tea and conversation in the Zuzeum Living Room, where you can share your impressions in a calm and welcoming atmosphere.

Oto Holgers Ozoliņš (b. 1997) is an artist whose practice is based on process-driven sculpture, exploring themes of personal growth and purpose. During the pandemic, he undertook a project in which he carved one wooden spoon every day for 400 consecutive days, resulting in his first solo exhibition. This disciplined, habit-forming approach inspired further endeavors, including an attempt to build a boat, quit smoking, run a marathon, and train for a triathlon. These projects have transformed his understanding of how form can be applied to traditional materials.

In 2024, Oto graduated from the Latvian Academy of Art with a Master’s degree in Sculpture. In the same year, he received the ACADEMIA/ Helen Scott Lidgett Studio Award 2024/2025. Currently, his works explore decision-making and personal limitations, creating new connections between materiality and performativity.

Seniors are especially welcome, but participants of all ages are invited to join. We look forward to seeing you!
